Relaxation & lots of Thainess: Mövenpick Resort & Spa Karon Beach Phuket

THATraveller blogger Holly O’Sullivan recently enjoyed the happy balance of relaxation and activities to be found at Mövenpick Resort & Spa Karon Beach Phuket.

Karon Beach is one of the longest beaches in Phuket, and being quieter than nearby vibrant Patong Beach, it’s a popular choice for families and loved-up couples looking for a romantic break.

Located directly across the road from Karon beach, Mövenpick Resort & Spa has a variety of luxurious accommodation options for all family dynamics, is surrounded by lush tropical gardens, and is a stones throw from a wide range of local cuisine.

Whether you’re a honeymoon couple wanting to seclude yourself in the private, picturesque villas or a large family looking to let the kids run wild in a spacious family room – there’s a little something for every type of visitor.

Coconut Villas at Movenpick Resort and Spa Phuket

The Mövenpick Resort & Spa has 363 rooms, most of which are located in the main building with spacious balconies and ocean views. 113 of these rooms are villas with sun decks and outdoor rain-forest showers, and provide access to the private Coconut Grove Pool.

As the rooms are spaced out across the large property, the hotel provides buggy services, available with a simple call to reception. All rooms include air-conditioning, direct-dial phone, high-speed internet, satellite TV and 24-hour room service for those midnight snackers. Each room is tastefully decorated to incorporate an artistic and traditional décor.

For a great choice of gourmet meals, the Mövenpick Resort & Spa is connected to the chic, beachfront Karon Beach Square, where you’ll find four dining options – Café Studio where you can indulge in coffee and ice cream, traditional Asian and Thai cuisine at Orient Asia, Brazilian cookery at El Gaucho and classic bistro dishes and cocktails at Mint with the company of a local DJ.

My personal recommendation would be to indulge in the tasting plates offered by Orient Asia – this way you can experience various Thai dishes, including a unique dessert of flavoured water chestnuts in coconut milk.

For a relaxing spa treatment, make your way to The Spa, which has gorgeous individual villas for each spa guest. Make sure you take advantage of the luxurious outdoor baths that sit in the luscious little gardens behind each lodge. A popular spa treatment combines a body scrub, a milk and orchid bath and a coconut oil massage to finish (my personal favourite was the coffee scrub).

For travelling parents, you can rely on one of Phuket’s largest kids club to look after your kids (and teens) while you explore the area. The Kids Club has both indoor and outdoor activities including local arts and crafts, a Playstation and internet room, a TV room, a reading room and various daytime itineraries – some arts and crafts activities include making and designing flower necklaces and paper fans.

Mövenpick Resort & Spa also has a wide variety of activities including a free scuba diving class in one of the pools (book ahead). For other Phuket attractions, almost every establishment includes pick-up and return transfers, and you are able to book and pay for as many experiences as you like directly from the tour desk.

Being set in such a beautiful (and convenient) location on Karon Beach, and with a wide range of activities on offer and attractions nearby, Mövenpick Resort & Spa is what you make of it: a fantastic place to unwind and do nothing (perhaps a spa treatment) or a convenient base for a busy exploration of Phuket.
