The sun shone as Sydney-siders flocked to the Thailand Grand Festival, no doubt finding their way here each morning by following the wonderful aromas from the many food stalls.

All sorts of traditional Thai dishes were on offer from a range of Sydney’s best Thai restaurants, everything from Som Tum to Pad Thai and northern-style Thai sausages.

The crowds were entertained all weekend with performances by traditional Thai dancers, Muay Thai demonstrations, musicians, seminars on Thai massage treatments and Thai cooking demonstrations.

In the kids’ corner the kids had great fun with kites, colouring in and amusement park rides including a huge inflatable slide.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) was there to give away kites, water pistols and temporary tattoos to kids of all sizes, and of course, there were lots of opportunities to get wet and celebrate Songkran.

TAT in conjunction with the Royal Thai Consulate Sydney decided to organise this year’s festival under the theme Songkran so that visitors can experience a mini version of the real thing a month early, so if they like it they still have enough time to book their holidays to enjoy the actual festivals nationwide in Thailand.
